I did not want Patches to be just another one of the thousands of forgotten or unwanted cats. With her story and her picture, I always have a part of her with me. That is why I started this thread – so she would be remembered.

There is one other cat; actually, he was only a kitten, who I don’t want to be simply another one of the forgotten.

In this picture, you will see three kittens. The little orange boy was Dusty’s kitten.

You may have noticed from “Dusty’s letter” that she was pregnant. After she was rescued and transported from Tennessee to Long Island, she gave birth her kitten. She only had one, the little orange boy in the picture.

Dusty’s kitten was only with us two weeks before he went to the bridge. When Floyd passed away, I took comfort in the image of Floyd watching over him at the bridge. When Ranger, a very sick little kitty, came into my household, it was Floyd who watch over him, who played with him, who slept with him every night, and who gave him a good grooming every day. One of the most enduring memories I have is watching Floyd give Ranger “that look” and see Ranger meekly come over for his daily “bath”

Here is a picture of Floyd sleeping in the chair with Ranger (who was still a kitten, then)
.

After Dusty’s kitten passed away, she came to live with me.

You know, I cannot stand the idea of that little boy waiting at the bridge without a name. I have to “hunt” a name for him.

Mark

Mark - that letter from Dusty WOULD BE hard to say "no" to as Jim pointed out.... So, Dusty was pregant too? (in addition to Patches being thought pregant?)

I'm a bit confused (need more Trilly-89-57 ) because you said the letter was from Dusty but in the next post you said

Michelle:

Both Dusty and Patches were from the same rescue group. It would appear that most of the adult cats the rescue group tried to find homes for were pregnant.

The agency found homes for kitties in high kill shelters. I think it was a standard policy in these shelters to put down any pregnant cat.

Patches, the first cat, was, we though, pregnant. Really, she was not pregnant, just very sick. She died.

Dusty was pregnant. She gave birth to one kitten, the orange guy in the picture. The kitten died after about two weeks. Once the kitten died, I adopted Dusty from the agency.

About 10 days after I adopted Dusty, Floyd died.

I hope this helps. But, I’m pretty sure that caffeine will explain it much better than I.

Mark

Ok....I got it now Mark. I've had more coffee and then did my running around and just now got home to read your explanation. I guess I really DID need the coffee.... thanks for taking the time to explain it all to me. Now, it's time for a nap before heading off to school....

Mark, this has been some emotional thread for me. Thanks for sharing.

If you'd like, I can put the story of Patches on the W.V. Cats website. I have a Rescue's page. Or I can make a new page called whatever we think would be good. Maybe one on Bridge Kitties. Or do both.

Dear Margaret:

I would like that very much. Copuld you include both Patches and the Dusty's kitten.

I have his name in the office - but I have forgotten it right now. Let me look that up for you.

Thanks

Margaret:

Dusty's little orange kitty is Rodwen. It translates as "Noble"

Yes indeed, both Patches and Rodwen will be included. Smile I'm not sure when I will have it on my website, but it will get there sooner or later.
