I found several good books about cats for children.

See at the bottom of the page:

Some of them will help teach care and compassion for homeless cats and cats in general.

I think these two below in particular are very good to help develop awareness and compassion in children for stray cats. Click on the pictures to get to the page with details about the books.

I am going to tell Randy's daughter about these books. She is always looking for good books to share with her third grade class and she loves animals.

Margaret:

Are there any good books for kids in dealing with the death of a pet.

Spiky mom ran a home based day care. She has her own daughter as well as several clients.

If you have any recommendations, I'll check them out and send one to her.

Mark

These are great recommendations Margaret. I've got some baby showers coming up, and some of the moms asked for books. They will also be good for book drives. We really need to spread these messages!

Thanks!

There are sooooooo many books on Amazon.com that it took a long time to find the ones I did that I thought were quite good. And I didn't finish wading through all there is.

Mark, the book Desser the Best Cat Ever deals with a cat that finally dies of old age. Click on the picture to get to the full description.

As Publisher's Weekly said, "This tale with its agile balance of humor and pathos and its emphasis on the importance of both treasuring memories and beginning anew will reassure children who have endured the loss of a pet. Ages 5-8."

Another book about a loved pet dying is I'll Always Love You. It is a dog that dies. For ages 4-8.

Barney the cat dies in The Tenth Good Thing About Barney, for ages 4-8.

I found some more books for children about the loss of a pet. I made a webpage for them, so they are all in one easy to find place for anyone. I also started to add books for adults on pet loss, and some links to pet memorials.
