Just a quick update...Clay (one with the liver problem) is going to the vet today for a blood draw so we can have a full liver panel done. This is a regular 6-month bloodwork...Once, I have information about his ALT and AST enzymes, I will let you all know! =) Crossing my fingers! He continues to be on Actigall 50mg and Marin daily.

I forgot if you ever said what the vet thinks went wrong with his liver and why, if that can be known.

What went wrong and what is wrong specifically with Clay remains somewhat unknown....The biopsy which was done 2 years ago showed some inflammation of the bile ducts in the liver but the sample taken did not provide a definitive diganosis. So, bascially, the report said that they know something is not right, but they aren't quite sure what it is but they do know the Bile Ducts are inflammed.

When a cat's liver's Bile Ducts become inflammed, the bile gets stuck in the liver and this causes liver damaged. The main medication Clay is on is Actigall. Actigall helps removal Bile Acids, it increases bile flow so hopefully bile doesn't stay standing in the liver, and it also modulates the immune repsonse in the liver to help decrease inflammation. The Marin does a couple of things: it encourages liver cell growth/repair, helps prevent further cell death, and acts as an anti-oxidant.

Basically, we giving Clay's liver every medication that can help support its functioning. When I first got Clay, he had a high fever and battled off some infection. Its possible that this infection is what triggered the liver problem. Also, Clay was 1 of many, many cats a lady was hoarding so who knows what happened to him before he came to the animal shelter.

Thanks for the good luck! I appreciate. I should know something tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning, I am going to see my GI doctor about my Crohn's disease. It is a regular check-up but glad I get to do a over-haul.

Something I keep thinking about is that I am sooo lucky to have Clay and Angus in my life...When they both were acutely sick with medical problems, I felt a lot of anxiety, worry, concern and some frustration. But, I truly believe that they both came to me for a reason...Any cat who comes to my home gets the best medical care possible.

I'm ok. I suppose you read my post about my Simon suddenly dying. So that was not good. But I'm adjusting to it. Not so easily, though.

News keep getting better for Clay....

His Bile Acids which were elevated 6 months ago are now normal.

8 months ago, Clay's ALT was 267 then 6 months ago his ALT was 238 and now it is 120! The normal range for ALT is about 50-100.

Clay's AST which was elevated three blood draws ago has continued to look normal on the past two blood draws.

So, improvement for Clay, Yay!
