I took Molly and Jeremy to the vet to get their blood tests today to rule out any food contamination problem from the Nutro. The vet expects the blood tests to be negative, but agreed I made the right decision.

Getting them in their carriers wore me out! Molly not only fought me, but she cried the whole time - something new. Guilt guilt guilt.......

I had gotten the carriers out early today and Jeremy made a beeline for my bedroom to hide. At any rate, I guess I fooled him because it took him a while to realize what was happening when I so lovingly picked him up, pet him and then had to sort of "thrust" him into the carrier. He didn't make the usual haunting dove sound that he usually does - I think Molly was making enough noise for them both.

At any rate, Molly talked the whole time we were at the vets waiting (the tech was 30 minutes late). It didn't help when a male pit bull showed up - and shortly following - a large female blonde (yellow?) lab.

Molly came out unscathed, but Jeremy freaked out as usual once they took him into the room to draw blood. He came out and started digging at the carrier - this is his sign that he is ready to urinate......which he did. He was so soaked and smelled so bad that I had to put him in the tub and I bathed about 1/2 of him - mostly his lower back, butt and belly. He was not a happy camper. Then I found a large blood stain on the back of his rear leg and it was a bit swollen. I called the vet, but he said just leave it alone. (I had tried to wash it off but couldn't). And sure enough, Jeremy washed it off.

After I dried him as best I could I brushed him and put him on my bed. When I went in to pet him a bit later, he turned his back on me...... Crying or Very sad

However, I gave him lots of treats this afternoon, lots of hugs (to his back) and he ate a very good supper. He seems better now.....He is sooooo traumatized whenever he goes to the vet......and he always comes out with some sores, bruises - whatever. He really fights them. The next time I'm going to ask to hold him because I think he would feel a little better.

Thanks for "listening" as I feel a little better sharing here. I felt so badly for him.

Mark and Margaret - I don't know how you do it when you have to give shots, IV's, pills, liquid meds.......so many follow-up vet visits........I give you a lot of credit!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry Jeremy has such a hard time at the vets. It is hard for them too!

Well, considering we were dealing with Galen for the sub-q's and frequent blood testing, we were lucky it WAS Galen. Galen is so docile and accepting that it is easy to treat him. He is great at the vet's too when they do things with him such as taking blood. He is a vet's dream patient. One vet and three techs commented on how great he is to treat. Very Happy

Simon was easy to pill. He liked to eat so maybe getting some solid thing in his mouth was not so bad to him. Though at first, he would spit out the pills while we were still developing our pill giving techique on him. Liquid medicine was a big NO! with Simon. But pills were fine. He did fine with his asthma inhaler too, over his snout with the special snout piece.

Getting things done at the vets, by the vet staff was another matter. Simon was not a good patient at all! He was upset by being in a strange place with strange other animal smells so would start a fuss just trying to get him out of the carrier. Then he would make that "I might attack" gutteral, scary noise that made the vet staff not too enthused about trying to handle him.

Still, Simon was easy for us to do things with. I don't think we would be able to do sub-q's easily with him though. Oh boy, I miss Simon. Crying or Very sad

Now, with Sumner, trying to get any form of medicine into him is a problem, since he flips, flops, squirms and contorts so extremely rapidly one can't hardly keep a hold on him! He turns bonesless. and I think he phases in and out of a solid state! But, he never, ever tries to bite or fight us. He will use his claws as fingers to try to pull our hands off him, though. It hurts, but that was not his intent. We do finally manage to get pills or liquid meds into him, but I can't see that we would mange well trying to give sub-q's.

Maria - I'm so sorry that Jeremy (and Molly) have such a hard time at the vet's office... Poor Jeremy though....he must be positively terrified to act out so and then wet himself like that too!!! That must be so hard for you..... I wish I could help. Maybe next time they take blood from him (for whatever reason) they will let you hold him as you suggest..... sometimes I do that with mine only because they come to me to "hide" their heads in my arms as I stand next to the examining table. It's just easier for the vet or the tech to draw blood if the cat is calm (or as calm as possible anyway).

Milo is every vet's dream patient too.... Peaches is also good. Muffin is PRETTY good - she just wants to run away really really bad... Sparky, well.... they wear heavy leather gloves to their elbows and "stand back" alot with that boy.... Yep, he sure makes sure they are all awake and prepared when he's there.
