We're just back from the vet's. Jolie has lost weight. She is now 7.9 lbs. down from her normal 9. She has a sore throat. The vet could see redness. She also had an elevated temperature. Not up to a worrisome fever level, but higher than normal. So she is to take Clavamox antibiotic for a week.
The blood test results will be ready tomorrow. The vet didn't do a thyroid test yet, pending the results of everything else and since her sore throat might explain it all. I'm thinking and hoping that her not eating, except for the treats she loves, was due to having a sore throat. I am sorry she has a sore throat, but better it be only that. _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

Margaret,
I'm hoping and praying that Jolie doesn't have anything except a sore throat - and that the medication cures it quickly.

Hi Margaret:
A sore thorat could explain the loss of appitite and weigh loss. I know that when I have a sore throat, I do not want to eat.
I hope the blood tests will turn out OK - or give you an indication of what the problem is.

Hoping the blood test come back good.
Spyder had a sore throat with a fever last year and the meds fixed him right up. _________________ Diane~ I have 6 Kitties~ Chuckie (RIP 2001-2006), Spyder, Stormy, Winnie, Crystal and Francine. |

Thanks for the update. Hope the blood work comes out ok. I have a feeling it's just stress related, I hope so. |

Yes. Or maybe she had some congestion due to allergies to the things blooming now, and bacteria was able to build up, same as happens to humans.
The vet didn't call with the results yet. They are only open half a day Wednesdays, so I will find out today, Thursday. _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

Margaret:
Not to make you worry, but I just read the following info on the rat poison that is in the cat food.
| Quote: | | "Signs and symptoms of acute exposure to aminopterin may include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, stomatitis (inflammation of the oral mucosa), pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx), erythematous rashes (red rashes on the skin), hyperpigmentation (abnormally increased pigmentation), chills, fever, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and renal failure (especially in high doses). |
The pharynx is the area where the throat and nasel passages combine.
I'm pretty sure you said that you had not been feeding the recalled brands to your little one.

Mark, we have not been feeding any of the recalled foods. We may have bought a few cans sometime before Christmas, but symptoms would have shown up long before now, if any of those cans were affected.
Jolie's bloood work was fine. Her creatine was a touch over normal, at 2.9. High nomal is 2.4. Nothing to worry over. They have to redo her cbc since the blood clotted in tube before they went to test it, or something like that. They will redo it for free.
We bought some of the higher quality Fancy Feast product, the Elegant Medleys, and last night Jolie ate it! All the cats did. Galen even went back to finish some leftover in one of the bowls! _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

Margaret:
This is a relief. The pet food recall has all of us on edge.
