Both cats checked out fine EXCEPT for poor Muffin.... I forget her weight but she's down a half pound and we believe it is due to a tooth and gum problem. Dr. Will showed me the left side of her teeth and there on the bottom of one tooth the gum line was blood red and inflamed. He said the tooth would have to come out. Her dental surgery and cleaning is scheduled for Tuesday the 27th. It's the soonest they could get her in. She IS eating but apparently not well enough since her weight is dropping. She must be in pain but he didn't give me any pain meds for her.

Another cat (a male named "Miss Kitty" - yep, you heard me right - a MALE, he was named when they thought he was female and they just kept the name) who belongs to friends of ours is having a problem. They took Miss Kitty to a vet for blood in the stool and blood dripping down his bloomers a while back. Vet put him on Laxatone. The bleeding stopped. The folks then stopped the Laxatone and the bleeding resumed. He actually leaves a trail of blood drops from room to room - it's that kind of bleeding. Took Miss Kitty BACK to the vet who had them put him BACK on Laxatone and the bleeding stopped again. Any clue as to why the Laxatone is making the bleeding stop????

Also, Miss Kitty has a pillow that he's had for a few years now and I guess a few days ago he urinated on it and that was the ONLY incident of inappropriate urination. He's using the litter box just fine. Any clue why he urinated on his pillow just the one time????

Poor Muffin. It's bad enough when humans have teeth and gum problems, but the kitties can't tell us. I'm glad it was caught, but sorry for Muffin. I'll say a prayer that all goes well Thursday.

I don't have any thoughts about Miss Kitty and his problems right now, but I will say a prayer that they find out what is the source - and that whatever it is can be cured quickly and painlessly.

I will tell you that my mantra for any inappropriate elimination is "to the vet we go"!

I'm glad you are able to get Muffin in as soon as possible. I was worried about Evan and the need for a dental - but, based on the info from Dr Kate, I don't think a dental is in the works (although there was some tarter on a back tooth).

Thank you Mark and Maria but Muffin's appointment on Tuesday the 27th is not soon enough for me. The gum/tooth looks to be excruciatingly painful for the poor dear.

Everybody needs some dental cleaning but with 6 animals I cannot afford to do it all at once (or at this time). Muffin is going in as an "emergency" case.

Mark - I told Dave that he and Connie should take Miss Kitty in to the vet for another possible UTI (he had one when they first moved from stress FROM the move and my insistance took care of the kitty boy) but Dave said he only urinated that ONE time on the pillow and it was several days ago. He and Connie are thinking he just doesn't like the pillow. Dave did take him in for the bleeding issue but did not mention the one inappropriate urination. Maybe I'll see him this weekend (he sort of adopted us as his parents a few years back) so I'll see if anything has happened since his visit with us on Tuesday.

So Michelle, even though Peaches was the one chewing on things, it turned out Muffin has the tooth/gum problem. I am sorry she has that problem.

As for MR. Kitty (why don't they change it from "Miss" to "Mr."?), do they use the same vet you do? I a cat is having a problem with blood dripping out of it's butt, more than just giving laxatone needs to be done. The reason why it occurs is important to find out, and then fix. Maybe the cat has a hemmoriod or something. I'd sure insist on tests or a colonoscopy or something.

Well Margaret - I never did find out which cat had the chewing issues but whenever I DID see one chewing it was always Peaches. I've never seen Muffin chewing on stuff.... she has been eating the dog food lately though - but then so has Milo. (It's Hills prescription for weight management - DRY) I can't understand why they like the dog food all of a sudden. The chunks are quite large for a cat!

I thought about Miss Kitty being named Mr. Kitty too.... I don't know why they don't change it. Poor guy.... and no, they don't use my vet. I suggested him to them but they are young and though at this time they make more money than we do (though my vet is quite expensive) , they don't want to drive that far. They actually live in a town called Little Falls and my vet would be an hour or more away from them..... in fact, when I take animals with me - he's an hour away from ME!!! I tend to drive slower and have to keep stopping to pick up vomit (car sickness) or poopies with the cats.....

Anyway, you think a hemmoroid could make him bleed like that???? I never thought of that. He's about 5 years old or so too, by the way. I have not met him yet but I do want to go by their place. They keep asking us to stop over but we rarely drive that direction. They are about 15 minutes from us.

The vet they go to has a very good reputation so I'm surprised he only suggested laxatone.... oh, and they DID take an exray and his bowels were completely full of feces at the time of the bleeding. The vet told them that if the bleeding continued they would pursue other tests (I think Dave did mention a colonoscopy) but the bleeding stopped with the laxatone. That's the latest news I heard. I would have thought that an maybe an impaction like that would cause bleeding from ripping the anal opening or something but I didn't think blood would actually drip from his butt like they say it does. MR. Kitty does like the laxatone (it's red - don't know what flavor that is) so it's easy to give him and it is helping. Dave mentioned that if the bleeding starts again they might go to a second vet for another opinion and that's when I suggested my vet.

I'm worried about him too.

Tomorrow is finally the 27th! I hope all goes well for Muffin and her gum/teeth condition. Thinking about your little loved one in pain is definitely discomforting...

I hope that Miss/Mr. Kitty finds some resolve for his condition as well. That is quite disturbing.

Both will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Yep, it'sTuesday morning and it's 6:27 a.m. EST... all the cats took turns waking me up at about 4:00 a.m. because they are STARVING!!!!! I took the food away last night around 7:45 p.m. (when I went to bed) and they are used to having food 24/7. EVERYBODY has been hounding me for food. I couldn't leave it out because then Muffin would eat and she's not supposed to eat before surgery. Poor starving creatures.... You'd think they haven't eaten in weeks!!!!

I'll put the food out as soon as I get Muffin in her carrier at about 8:15 a.m. or so.

I know what you mean! I couldn't give Kilalah any food past 8:00pm the night before her operations either. Fortunately, I got her to eat right at 7:30 so she was good through the night.

I'm anxious to hear how everything went at the vet yesterday! I hope Muffin is doing well.
