I agree with you, Michelle,
If we would just be told the TRUTH by EVERYONE we could work with them......another thing I thought I'd mention.
I don't usually buy cat food in the grocery store and I don't know if they have raised the prices on non-affected cat food, but FF Chicken with gravy is 66 cents a small can! And Petco is charging 59 cents - I think they raised their prices.
I got FF at PetGoods for 40 cents a can with my card - their price is 45 cents if you don't have a card I think.
Gee - even Nutro is only 47 cents there and I pay 42 cents.
I suppose we have to expect price gouging now along with all the rest of the bad news.
I am praying every day that all of our animals be protected from any of the affected foods........and stay well.

Update on Nutro Foods
I finally got through to Nutro and spoke to a real live person!
I asked why the Nutro Classic Gourmet cans are NOT on the recall list when they include the same ingredients as the pouches - and are cuts and gravy with wheat gluten.
At first the person said "that's a good question." Then after checking she said "the 3 oz cans of cat food are NOT manufactured in the Menu Foods Emporia where the tainted food is coming from. They are manufactured at a different Menu Food plant that has not had a problem with any of their foods."
I told her I thought that might be the reason, since it is the only reason I could think of that this food wouldn't be on the list. I suggested that (IMHO) Nutro should post this information on their website to clarify why it is safe to eat this food. I explained to her that not posting this information makes it unclear to (some) lay people like myself if this specific can of cuts and gravy is safe. The media makes it sound like all cuts and gravy made by Menufoods are unsafe. At least that's what I understood. She agreed.
Well, I feel better........so I think I'll go back to feeding the Nutro and worry about finding another food without wheat gluten when I get back from my retreat.

I seem to remember that the Menu Food problem is in two out of five (or seven?) plants.

Yes, I think there are two. However she said it, she meant that it was not manufactured at the affected (plants). She may have even meant it as plural - or said Emporias.

One of Hill's Prescription Diets is the first dry food to be recalled.
Quote from the Press Release - link below:
| Quote: | | Meanwhile, Hill's Pet Nutrition recalled its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food. The food included wheat gluten from the same supplier that Menu Foods used. The recall didn't involve any other Prescription Diet or Science Diet products, said the company, a division of Colgate-Palmolive Co. |

Why is the US buying wheat gluten from other countries, when we grow so much wheat ourselves? That seems to be asking for trouble, since their laws on ok fertilizers and pesticides are not the same as those in the US. And so much can happen from there to the US.

Margaret - the link takes me to a message "can't find the page" so I tried the CNN website and couldn't find the article.
At any rate, I agree - I've wondered about why we're buying wheat from other countries myself. It's quite strange.
