I'd like to order some Fromm's, but I've tried shredded chicken in 2 other brands and they won't eat it.
The chunky chicken is mixed with tuna. I might consider trying it, but don't want to buy a whole case just in case in either flavor.
I'm at a loss to know what to do. I'm going to see if there is somewhere I can buy some of this better food locally.
I hope the dry is okay. I'm feeding California Natural and Innova Evo. If anyone has heard anything on these brands/flavors in the dry, please let me know.......
I know some people aren't feeding the dry if the wet food is on the recall list of that same brand. I haven't gone that far, but I think I'm still safe with the two above - I didn't see any Innova Evo or California Natural on their lists.

Hi Maria:
I believe that the dry foods are made in a different plant.
Several of the dry food brands make their own and only contract out their wet food.
So far, no dry food is on the recall list.

See??? That's what I don't get! If some of their foods are produced by Menu foods, why don't they take the precaution to have them added to the list of recalled items????
I know the Wellness foods I have are all pate style (none of mine like the chunks, slices or shredded foods) and I think I only have turkey and chicken in there but this last order I did order some beef but I don't recall from what company.... I'll have to look again when I get home. |
They are only recalling chunks in gravy type canned and pouch foods since those were the ones that had that wheat gluten from China in them. The other foods have not shown evidence or had any reports of having any problems.
But I am a little paranoid.
No dry foods are part of any recall and there is no known problems with any dry foods.

I emailed Nutro twice. I did get a "generic" reply with a lot of information on it. The email also said that if I had tried emailing them, please try again as they have hired extra help to assist with all that is happening. So I will do that tomorrow.
In the meantime, the question I had seems to be answered in the long informational email I received - I asked about the Lamb & Turkey cuts (chunky) and gravy. The email stated that for "CATS" only the pouches were recalled. However, for the dogs, pouches and some cans were affected. I still wonder why since some of the cat food cans are cuts (chunks) and gravy.....so I will email them again - until I get a specific answer. Somehow it doesn't make sense.
However, I will say that Nutro is much more on top of things and updated much more frequently than Menu foods. Nothing much has changed on their website.

Thanks Mark......
This is what I thought. However, there are so many websites and some have conflicting information - and I was afraid I missed something.
Like Margaret said, I too am paranoid about this whole thing........

News update - I don't have a copy of the "official news" because I just heard this on the radio. One of the top vets from the ASPCA said there is a BIG question about rat poison being the source of the cats and dogs dying. He said the presenting symptoms do not correspond to rat poison. He said he is not implying that Menu Foods are not being upfront, but he emphasized that they need to aggressively keep testing and investigating to find the cause. He also said that there are officially over 100 cats dead and another large number affected, and probably more deaths that are not included in the official count. I don't recall the number of the dogs, but it was less.
This is not going away anytime soon I'm afraid. However, there is very little on the news as far as I know.
ETA: I did find this article about the FDA involvement - updated today.

I'm glad to know that congress is demanding more from the FDA about this problem.
Of course, we all know more than 16 cats died. Those were the one's Menu Foods fed their food to in order to see if it really was true that there was a problem, so would be the only ones they personally can be sure died due to the food. _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

New Infor reported by CNN
| Quote: | RICHMOND, Virginia (AP) -- Government testing found a chemical used to make plastics in recalled pet food linked to the deaths of dogs and cats, officials said Friday.
The Food and Drug Administration said it found melamine in samples of the Menu Foods pet food, as well as in wheat gluten used as an ingredient.
Cornell University scientists also have found the chemical, also used as a fertilizer, in the urine of sick cats, as well as in the kidney of one cat that died after eating the company's wet food. |

Thanks Mark,
This is the article I read online this morning - I mentioned it in my post below before I read this post. It gets more confusing all the time. What a mess!
Thanks for posting this.
There is supposed to be a news conference today at any rate, even if it is by Peta - it may just stir up some other secluded information such as CNN report. I can't believe that when I listen to the news on the radio or TV that there is virtually nothing new mentioned.
