Thankfully I don't buy any of those brands but I will pass on the info to my coworkers in case they do.
Thank you for the "heads up" Margaret. _________________ Michelle |

I have (had) two cas of Sophistacat low magnesium fourmula - sliced chicken dinner in Gravy and Turkey and Giblets dinner.
Margaret: Thanks so much for the heads up. I purchased these cans to see if I could temp the cats when they had the kitty cold earlier in the year.
As these cans were chunks and gravy, I did not use them. My guys do not like chunks and gravy.
Ayway, in to the garbage it will go!
Mark

They say that the reported problems (with cats and dogs developing kidney problems and some dying) cooincided with their having used a new supplier for one of the ingredients. They have stopped using that supplier.
***********************
Remember, this does not affect dry foods.
The advice of many about rotating different brands of foods and not only feeding pets just one brand all the time shows to have real merit in light of this problem.
In addition, the long standing advice to not feed supermarket brand foods really applies now! _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

From what I understand the affected food is only for the dates given on the website, and it doesn't include all "flavors" of food.
Nutro Gourmet Turkey and Lamb is not on the list and is the only Nutro food I feed Molly and Jeremy.
I'm not going to give it to them until all the info comes out, but I do believe it's okay because it is not on the list and it is not within the dates posted.
Any thoughts on this? Meaning - do you think it's okay to give them the brand if the "flavor" isn't listed - and the dates are different than what is posted?
Thanks.

That is correct. As I wrote in my first post:
"The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches between Dec. 3 and March 6 throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico."
People should not only read these posts, but should go to the websites that links are give for, to read the complete details from the original sources.

I may be fine. Perhaps best if you don't use it every day. I'd be nervous to use it, especially since Galen developed kidney problems.
We have been serving Fancy Feast shredded meat in gravy canned (what they call "grilled) for the past few months. We used to serve the Gourmet Classics. Glad we stopped that months ago! But now I wonder about Galen and the Nutro canned we used to serve. _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

Well, I did purchase the Nutro Gourmet within those dates - actually I have fed the Nutro for about 2 years. However the Lamb & Turkey were not on the list, although it includes the wheat gluten that seems to be the culprit in the others. The lamb & turkey are also "meat in gravy." Maybe for some reason the "bad" wheat gluten was not included in this flavor.
Also, about 2 weeks ago, I just happened to get some Fancy Feast on sale (chicken feast with gravy). I've been mixing that with the lamb & turkey since they were getting a little tired of it.
BTW, I did go on the website and read everything I could find. Thanks for the links as it made it easier.
I went to PetGoods today and got some different brands to try. My two are picky eaters. Jeremy will eat plastic, Molly will eat cords, but they're picky about the kinds of food they eat. Go figure.
PetGoods had taken everything off the shelves on the lists - the lamb and turkey are still there. They said they will take anything and everything back for store credit - no problem.
I'm going to return the lamb & turkey simply because I purchased it within the dates specificed. I would think the expiration date would be more important since some items on shelves are older/newer and may be perfectly okay. Whatever!
Thanks Margaret.

I don't know why they didn't list the Lamb and Turkey, unless for some reason that flavor was made at a different plant with a different supplier of the wheat gluten? Still, I would not use it, since I am not totally sure of the situation. I think, "better safe than sorry". _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |

It's interesting because there were quite a few flavors not listed and still on the shelves from last week.
No, I'm not going to give them any of this. In the meantime, they will eat the FF chicken feast in gravy. They're pieces in nice gravy. However, I tried mixing it with other food and they wouldn't touch anything else. So be it! Fancy feast it is.........at least for now.
