Ron:
The enclosure is pretty amazing. What are you going to call it?
I do have a tech question. How do you keep bugs and other small critters from coming into the house? Do you lock the entrance and only let the little ones out at certain times?
Also, do you find the enclosures causing any greater flea problem with your little ones?
I would like to do something like what you have done. However, that will be a few years down the road. In another 5-6 years I’m planning on building a new house, and one of my “design requirements” is to have a screened in porch. My cats will have access to the porch.

That's awesome!
Mark asked some good questions, I'm actually curious to hear about how you deal with bugs and fleas as well. _________________

I just refer to it as the mini catzebo, but in reality it is just a nice pen.

The windows were open without screens just for the first day. Normally there will be pet doors in the window screens just like used for the catzebo. I will need to train them to use the per doors as I did with the other cats and the catzebo. That way I can just close the windows when I want them confined inside and open the windows to let them out. The screens will keep bugs out as any window screen. These cats will have more limited access to their outside area than the others as their rooms have central AC and I don't want to cool the outside all the time. The picture below shows Blaze next to a window screen with the pet door in place.

I use Revolution regularly. It works great and I have had no flea problems. _________________ Ron

Thank you. See my reply to Mark on how I handle bug and flea control. _________________ Ron

Ouch. 13 cats and Revolution each month. That will quickly become expensive!

I have used it now for several years. It will generally cover for six weeks rather than 4 stated and I buy it in bulk over the internet. It is still quite a bill. _________________ Ron

Great catzebo Ron. Really nice. How did you attach it to the stone on the wall and where did you find a cat door for a screen???? I would think screening would not support a cat door......The cats look great, by the way. _________________ Michelle |

That's wonderful, Ron! More happy cats! My cats love sunbathing out in our enclosure, chasing (and sometimes eating) bugs, but most of all, eating grass (the "ugly" fat grass that people don't like for their lawns. Cats don't want to eat that "pretty", skinny "perfect lawn" kind of grass.)
For the curious, here is my cats' enclosure: Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |

We've had outdoor enclosures for about 7 years. It does result in some more fleas than if the cats never went outside, but remember, people wind up bringing fleas into the house when fleas hitch a ride on shoes or pants.
So we do treat our cats for fleas, but since we live where there is a winter with several freezing days, we can skip January and February.
Except not this time since when we brought in Snookums and Calista in December, they had fleas, and then homeless cat Frankie we had for a short while had fleas. _________________ Margaret, a/k/a Galensgranny |
