Mark - how is Ranger doing? I guess that this appointment you want to make for him would be "SOP" rather than for any "reason". Would that be correct? _________________ Michelle |

Hi Michelle:
Ranger is doing fine - in fact, the best he has been since the FLUTD started up last June. There is no “active problem” right now.
All I wanted to know was what type of monitoring program we should set up for Ranger. Back when I had to have Ranger hospitalized for the blockage (New Year’s weekend), I asked Dr Cathy (Dr Kate was not in the office – Ranger’s condition was an emergency) to run some blood work on Ranger. Dr Kate and I had discussed running the blood work because Ranger had been on Metacam for a while – and we wanted to verify that there were no liver and / or kidney problems. At that time, Dr Cathy made a comment asking if the test was the “before” part of the before and after tests for the anitriptyline. So, I assumed that there should be some follow tests.
So, the good news is that nothing is going on – things are stable.
Also, on another good note, I’m still getting better administering the medicine. I’ve found that Ranger will swallow his medicine faster if I do not stroke is throat.

Well, that's all good news Mark!! And with Evan doing well at this point (and eating as in your other thread) and Ranger being stable - you must finally be breathing normally. I'm glad both your boys are doing so well. _________________ Michelle |

Based on my conversation with Dr Kate last night, I've scheduled blood work and a urinalysis for Ranger for 4/3/07. That is the same night I will be taking Gracie in for her spay operation.
We're just checking to see that the liver functions are fine, etc. It is a follow up to the new medicine.

I'll keep this in my prayers......hopefully Ranger is okay.
Will Gracie have to stay overnight? You certainly have your hands full at this point!

Hi Maria:
Yes, Gracie will be overnight. In fact, she will be there two nights - the night before the operation and the night of the operation.

That's good. You sure have some great vets.
I'm sure you're going to miss her.

Ranger has some follow-up blood testing tomorrow (Tuesday).
I am a bit concerned, as he was squatting with little production on Friday evening - but he looks fine right now. I'll birng that up with them.
I'm sure most of the current problem is related to the administration of the medicine. Ranger is getting quite good at hiding from me when it is time for his medicine and / or spitting the liquid out when I give it to him.
If I did not have to cut his pill in two, I think it would be easier to pill him.

I sympathize with you Mark....I am having trouble pilling Muffin once a day too.... Neil has to hold her for me so I can approach her from the front as I cannot get the pill in the right spot when I am kneeling over her from behind..... are you doing it by yourself??? _________________ Michelle |
