Well Michelle! I think you certainly have things under control over there! I give you a lot of credit for all the good care these little creatures at your house get.....and I must include the big creature that has no fur! grouphugg

I hope you take good care of yourself too! rk01_leccalecca

Hi Maria thankyou I try to keep after myself but I'm usually too concerned with everybody else. No biggee! It's not like I'm going anywhere....Trilly-81-35

That big creature without the fur - boy, he's the worst sometimes! Rolling Eyes He's doing much better today though - he tried to eat dinner yesterday and did get half a plate of spaghetti down. rk01_beviamocisu He stayed home from work today too - his head is still giving him that sharp pain between the eyes and stuff.... best to rest anyway. rk01_084 rk01_chiacchierare He's already been joking around and teasing me like normal.... Evil_Poking_Emoticon It's pretty much back to same old, same old. 22_yikes 485wh

Michelle, one thing you can try when giving the evening pill is what I did with Simon in the past, and that also helped pet sitters when we went away.

I would set down the 5PM canned food, which he was very impatiently waiting for- near death as you know happens with our poor cats. I'd let him eat a little, to wet his throat down and get the food taste in his mouth. Then, I'd kneel over him and rudely interrupt him as he was about to get another bite of food, and shove the pill in his mouth. Oh- the important part is to have the pill sitting out and ready before you serve the canned food. If he saw/heard me open the cupboard and get the pill bottle out, he'd run off.

He was so desirous of eating more of the canned food, that he swallowed it and then went right back to eating. That then put more food taste in his mouth so he didn't taste the pill much and also to help get the pill washed down into his stomach, instead of starting to dissolve in the throat.

The above only works with a cat who really, really loves his canned food.

I am glad Neil is feeling better. Eating a full meal is an excellent sigh.

Maria,

The vet made him "liquid" prednisone by mixing it with "cherry syrup" but he HATED it!

I can imagine. Cats wouldn't care for cherry flavor. You'd think the vet would have some meat flavor syrup. My Krogers has fish and beef flavor to mix in liquid meds for animals, among other flavors.

Michelle:

If Sparky (is it Sparky we're talking about here?) likes tuna juice (water from a can of tuna), you could try crushing the pill and mixing it with the juice.

You could also try mixing the pill and juice in with some wet food.

I found that Dusty will eat wet food anytime I mix some tuna water in with it.

Oh! that is such a stupendous idea! I usually have 2 treats sitting about 2" away, but they don't wet his throat.

I too thought "cherry syrup" - you must be joking. When I called to tell her how much he fought me, she said "well, I did put it in cherry syrup." Maybe her cat likes cherry syrup. Hmmmmmm.

Thanks Margaret!

Margaret - Excellent Idea. Sparky does like canned food - I'll give him that. He is the ONLY cat who gets up on the counter and sticks his nose IN the can as I am trying to scoop out the food into the dishes....hmm....Think that could be a problem. He's usually almost done eating by the time I get the food smashed down in the bowls for the other cats and give it to them..... Note to self: work faster. I will try that tomorrow night with his next steriod pill. His morning pill (antibiotic) seems to go in and down just fine. The steriod is the tough one to give him because it's so "chalky". He's getting them every other day now during his "wean off" period. "The boy" seems to be pretty much back to normal, too, btw. Rolling Eyes

Yes, Mark. It's the Sparky monster we are talking about. He's not a big fan of tuna....human or cat type. Actually the only one who IS a tuna freak is Muffin...but then again - if mommy is eating it she will try to get it out of my mouth - doesn't matter what it is. Last night, she "helped" me eat a Nutty Buddy. Rolling Eyes (She only gets the vanilla ice cream part - not to worry - no nuts or chocolate syrup stuff....) I'm not sure the tuna flavored water would help the nasty taste of the steroid pill though... Trilly-47-31
